Zayed makes competitive debut in Libya stalemate

FORMER League of Ireland man Eamon Zayed had to settle for a scoreless draw on his competitive international debut for Libya last night, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

Dubliner Zayed, who played underage international football for Ireland but then declared for Libya through the parentage rule, was handed a starting role as Libya took on the Democratic Republic of Congo in a World Cup tie in Libya last night but he was unable to score as the sides finished scoreless.

Libya now play Togo next week in the race to qualify for Brazil 2014.

Meanwhile, ex-Bohemians man Mindaugas Kalonas was in action for Lithuania in the World Cup qualifiers last night, starting in their defeat at home by Greece.
