'Wolves' pain will not hurt Ireland'

STEPHEN WARD insists that relegation from the Premier League for himself and his Wolves colleagues in the Ireland squad will have no bearing on their displays at the forthcoming Euro 2012 finals.

Ward, Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt and Kevin Foley will have to earn a move away from Molineux over the summer if they are to avoid Championship football next term, but Ward says the pain of demotion from the top flight has been put aside.

"Relegation is still on your mind, it prays on your mind, you try to work out what went wrong, what mistakes we made," Ward says.

"But it won't have an effect on the Wolves players.

"Being honest, the writing was on the wall before it happened, we worked as hard as we could to stay up but as the weeks went on it was more and more likely that we would go down, and we did with three games to go.

"We have had time to reflect on it.

"So I will think about Wolves when we go back for pre-season, but for now it's only about Ireland for me."
