Whelan's Euro vision

GLENN WHELAN is enjoying European success on the double as Stoke City aim to follow Ireland's example of progress in UEFA competition.

Whelan was a key figure for Ireland in their successful bid to reach the Euro 2012 finals and he's also been instrumental for Stoke as they try to come out of the group stages of the Europa League, with their next test against Dynamo Kiev on Thursday.

"Like we've done here at Stoke, Ireland have done really well to reach the Euros because nobody gave us much of a chance of doing it," said Whelan.

"Now everyone is buzzing and they can't wait for the summer's finals to come round.

"But we have a lot of focus on before them, both in Europe and in the Premier League, and it would be fantastic to go further in the Europa League."
