'We can qualify for Rio'

AIDEN McGeady remains convinced that Ireland can negotiate the minefield that is the remainder of the Brazil 2014 qualifying campaign despite the difficult road ahead.

l"I don't think there's any reason why we can't. A lot of people probably wrote us off after the Germany game and the Faroes game, but we did okay against Sweden and we should have won against Austria," he said.

l"It's stood us in good stead, I think, in the group. I don't see no reason why we can't. We almost qualified in 2010, we qualified for the Euros. It's going to be tough."

l"Germany are going to qualify, then it's between ourselves, Sweden and Austria. I don't see Sweden or Austria being far better than us."

* After a draw against England and a resounding home win over Georgia, McGeady believes that Ireland are well set-up for the Faroe Islands and beyond.

l"I mean it's been a good few games so far and if we get a result on Friday then it will set us up well for the remaining games in the qualifiers."
