Veron turns on 'firework fans'

FORMER Manchester United player Juan Sebastian Veron was in action with Estudiantes on Monday. He turned on his team's supporters who caused the match against Banfield to be suspended when they blasted the keeper out of it with firecrackers.

With both teams at the bottom of Argentina's Primera Division Apertura, this was a crucial six-pointer and things got out of hand when Banfield went a goal up. "Get down or I'll beat you up," threatened the angry Estudiantes captain to fans who'd climbed up the perimeter fence.

The Banfield keeper was deafened and disorientated by the explosions. "Acoustic trauma" the doctor calls it. He was lucky. In Tyrone, Dromore supporters would probably have bitten his ears off. Let's hope the Corofin (Galway) supporters don't hear about these developments. Gaelic football doesn't need any more fireworks.
