Vermaelen set to end injury woe

Thomas Vermaelen could return from a two-month injury layoff in Arsenal's Carling Cup clash with Bolton tonight.

The Belgium international (pictured) has been out with an Achilles injury, but could feature at the Emirates Stadium this evening, although he is likely to be named on the subs' bench as he has only just returned to training.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he is spurred on by the last-gasp Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham City earlier this year.

"It will hurt me forever," the long-serving manager said.

With one eye on Saturday's derby at Chelsea, Wenger is likely to rest the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Robin van Persie.

Fringe players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Emmanuel Frimpong and Park Chu-Young are likely to feature as a result.
