CHAMPIONS Shamrock Rovers bounced back from their 5-1 humiliation at St Pats last week with a 6-0 thrashing of Dundalk at Tallaght Stadium.
A Gary Twigg hat-trick and goals from Billy Dennehy, Chris Turner and Daryl Kavanagh were enough to give Stephen Kenny's men maximum points and move them to within one point of leaders Sligo Rovers.
Rovers were in the driving seat with two headed goals from Turner and Twigg in the space of three minutes from the half hour mark, and their dominance continued in the second period.
Their third came from Dennehy, who put earlier misses behind him to whip home a free-kick after the restart.
Twigg grabbed his second eight minutes from time by glancing home Conor McCormack's cross.
The Scottish striker then completed his hat-trick five minutes later when he coolly slotted home following a one-two on the edge of the area with Gary McCabe.
Substitute Kavanagh provided the final nail in the coffin for the Co Louth side as he dived in at the near post to glance in Turner's cross and end a sorry night for Dundalk.
