Twigg bows out with brace in Tallaght

IT was a bittersweet night at Tallaght Stadium as Gary Twigg scored twice in a 2-1 victory over UCD in his farewell game.

The Scottish striker, who will join Irish league side Portadown, opened the scoring for Shamrock Rovers in the 18th minute when he rounded Ger Barron and slid the ball home from an acute angle and he doubled the advantage soon after with a similar effort.

UCD hit back immediately when David McMillan showed his ability by chipping Oscar Jansson from just outside the area. Twigg was replaced with 15 minutes to go to a standing ovation.

ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC slipped to third in the table after they were beaten 2-1 by Derry City at the Brandywell in a battle of the FAI Cup finalists.

Goals from Simon Madden and David McDaid put the Candystripes in front in the first half and although Chris Forrester pulled one back, the Saints couldn't force an equaliser.

CORK CITY easily brushed aside bottom side Dundalk 3-0 at Turner's Cross last night.

Gearoid Morrisey, Vinny Sullivan and Shane Duggan got the goals for the Leedsiders.

BOHEMIANS scored an impressive 4-1 win on the road as they beat Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Dave Webster was sent off for the hosts.

Dave Mulcahy, Keith Buckley, Andy Mulligan and Ryan McEvoy bagged Bohs' goals with Jason Byrne scoring the Seagulls' reply.
