INDEPENDENT presidential candidate Mary Davis called up to the Irish team's training camp to lend her support ahead of tomorrow's match against Croatia.
But it appears Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni and his team were only too happy to show Mary their support as her campaign picks up a gear.
Ms Davis is well known in sporting circles thanks to her previous role as the CEO of Special Olympics Ireland, and has developed a strong relationship with the FAI over the years. FAI chief John Delaney did not object when Ms Davis asked if she could call up to the team's training camp in Portmarnock to show her support. She said that the opportunity to meet them was too good to turn down.
"We didn't even talk about endorsements (for the presidency), it was just the opportunity to have a picture taken with them really and that was it," she said.
