GIOVANNI Trapattoni has warned Mario Balotelli that he will live to regret his wasted years and wasted opportunities if he continues down the road he is currently travelling at Anfield.
"I do not know how Balotelli's career will pan out in the future.
"But I know that when he hangs up his boots he will realise the many opportunities he has wasted," said the former Ireland boss.
Already this week, Brendan Rodgers watched his side crash out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, when they failed to win against Basel.
Now, he must gear up for a huge visit to Old Trafford on Sunday with Balotelli still sidelined and discontent at Anfield growing, fuelled by Raheem Sterling's refusal to consider a £70k-a-week new contract offer.
Already, a social media backlash has left Sterling under no illusions about the depth of annoyance among Liverpool fans, branding him as greedy and disloyal.
However, with Real Madrid waiting in the wings and ready to pay considerably more than Liverpool are offering, the real focus will fall on Rodgers and Liverpool's American owner John Henry if they fail to agree a new deal with their hottest property.
