Stokes saves day for Celtic

INTERNATIONAL exile Anthony Stokes saved the day for Celtic with a hand in both goals at Motherwell, as Neil Lennon's troubled side moved into second place in the SPL, writes Joe McHugh.

Trailing Rangers by 15 points as the game kicked off, Celtic lost their trademark early goal from a corner when Michael Higden headed Motherwell into an 11th-minute lead.

Stokes equalised three minutes later, then set up substitute Gary Hooper for the winner 10 minutes from time but looks as close to an international recall as Roy Keane.

"That's what they are paid for," Lennon replied in answer to the five goals that Stokes and Hooper have contributed since he openly questioned them following the goalless draw with Hibs.

He added: "All that we are looking for is consistency from them because we know that they've got it.

"They are young men who sometimes lose concentration - we can't afford that any more."
