St Pat's inform gardai of online player abuse

ST PATRICK'S Athletic and the gardai are investigating abuse levelled at Pat's players on social networking sites since their 3-2 defeat in Sunday's FAI Cup final.

Keeper Brendan Clarke has been the focus of much of the ugly comments after his howler gifted Derry City a second-half penalty in the defeat.

"The players and staff of St Patrick's Athletic wish to express our disgust at some of the comments made on social networking sites towards some of our players and in particular our goalkeeper Brendan Clarke following the FAI Ford Cup Final," an official club statement read.

"The club does not tolerate bullying or hatred of any kind towards any of our staff, players or fans and have contacted the gardai in relation to the matter.

"The club are carrying out a full investigation and the individuals will be brought in front of our disciplinary board.

"St Patrick's Athletic are a family club and are extremely proud at the success of our team this year and look forward to another successful season next year."
