Former Ireland striker Noel Hunt will complete his move to Southend United this weekend once he passes a medical.
The Waterford-born player, released by Ipswich Town at the end of last season, had been linked with a move to the USA but Southend boss Phil Brown is close to a deal.
"It's been a complicated situation but we've booked in a medical and hopefully we can everything sorted out now," said Brown
"He's had a few niggling injuries during the past couple of seasons which we're hoping we can sort with a hands on approach."
