Shay insists fitness is a Given

SHAY GIVEN insists there are no doubts over his participation in Euro 2012 despite an injury scare last week, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

Given missed Ireland's friendly win over Bosnia on Saturday and has also sat out training for the last number of days, with that worrying sight last week of the Ireland No1 going to London to see a specialist, but the 35-year-old says there is no question over his fitness for the finals.

"I'll be fine for the finals. It was just a case of bad timing with the injury but these things happen," said Given.

"I'll hopefully be back training on Wednesday or Thursday, but there's no rush. I'd like to get back training, but I'll hopefully be okay to play in the Hungary game next week.

"In terms of me going to London last week it was more a case of peace of mind than anything and a second opinion -- you get that extra bit of confidence.

"I don't like missing any games but sometimes you have to listen to your body. If it was the Euros, I could have started and played against Bosnia on Saturday but I'm not worried."
