Sean's boost at Fulham

IRISH youngster Sean Kavanagh was on a high today after making a surprise first-team debut for Fulham last night even though his team finished on the losing side, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

A product of Dublin nursery Belvedere, Kavanagh was pitched into the starting XI for their home clash with Wolves in the Championship, a 1-0 win for Wolves, a massive vote of confidence in the 20-year-old by boss Felix Magath.

The German, who took over at Craven Cottage last term, is now under massive pressure after Fulham lost all three league games so far this season.

"The message for the fans is sorry for the defeat again but it does not change the situation. I can only ask for patience because we have a young team. I know that it might be a tough beginning of the season but I'm sure we're on the right way," says Magath.

"It is a long season, not a short run in the Championship, so I don't worry about the situation now."

Wigan are still waiting on an injury update on Ireland winger James McClean.

The Derry native has yet to play for the Latics this season after he picked up an injury in pre-season.
