Sammon's penalty woe

DERBY COUNTY boss Nigel Clough believes that Ireland international Conor Sammon will come good despite a dry spell in front of goal with the Rams, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

Sammon has failed to score in his last 10 games for Derby and he missed a good chance to end his run when he took a late penalty against Crystal Palace but his effort was saved.

"Conor is our second in line to take penalties when Jamie Ward isn't on the pitch," said Clough.

"Although he isn't having the best of times, he stood up and wanted to take the penalty.

"He was so unlucky and the blame doesn't fall on his shoulders.

"We had more than enough chances and the penalty pretty much sums his luck up but he will keep working."
