Sammon's loan move

MICK McCarthy has offered Ireland striker Conor Sammon a chance to get some much-needed first team football after the striker made a loan move to Ipswich Town.

Sammon struggled to get games at Derby last season but the arrival of Leon Best created even more competition for places, and Rams boss Steve McClaren has given his permission for Sammon to make a season-long loan move to McCarthy's Ipswich.

"Conor's first-team chances were limited last season, especially with Chris Martin in superb form," said McClaren.

"That was unfortunately going to be the case for him this season, especially following the arrival of Leon Best from Blackburn Rovers, so moving on loan to Ipswich presents him with a strong possibility of playing first-team football."
