IRELAND U21 cap Samir Carruthers has been forced to cut short his loan spell at MK Dons and return to Aston Villa due to injury.
The midfielder, who made his Premier League debut for Villa in April 2012, had made a big impression in League One this season following his loan switch from Villa, scoring twice in 28 appearances but Carruthers, 20, suffered a knee injury last week and has now gone back to Villa Park for assessment.
Meanwhile his compatriot and fellow Villa man Mikey Drennan is catching the eye on loan with League Two side Portsmouth.
Kilkenny lad Drennan scored on his debut for Pompey last weekend in a 5-1 defeat but he played a big part in their midweek win over Accrington Stanley, a victory which boosted Pompey's hopes of avoiding relegation.
"I thought he would thrive in the atmosphere of playing on a Tuesday night at Fratton Park with a good home support behind us. He deserved his chance and stuck at his task well for somebody who has barely played at this level and probably the biggest crowd he has ever played in front of," said Pompey boss Richie Barker.
