Russell keen to maintain UCD's form

UNBEATEN IN four games and seven clean sheets in the last eight games is potentially league-winning form, so no wonder UCD boss Martin Russell and his players have a smile on their faces, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

At the beginning of the season UCD, promoted as Division One winners from last term, were rank outsiders for league success this year, rated as 100/1 no-hopers with the bookies along with another 100/1 longshot, Galway United.

But 11 games into the new season, UCD are just outside the top five on the back of a superb run which has seen Russell's side lose just once in the last eight league games.

The next test on their run is away to bottom side Bray Wanderers next Friday but Russell hopes the unbeaten streak can continue.

"We will try and keep it going as long as possible. They are young lads, that will have to work ever so hard. They are trying to improve and they are seeing this Premier Division as a challenge to do that," Russell said, after his side have kept Pats, Bohs, Drogheda United and Sporting Fingal scoreless in their recent games.
