Rovers return a joy for Madden

SHAMROCK ROVERS have swooped to bring local lad Simon Madden back to Tallaght.

Defender Madden was an ever-present for Derry City last season as the Brandywell side secured a place in Europe for next season, but the club will have to cope without him.

The 28-year-old began his League of Ireland career with Rovers in 2008 after a spell with Leeds United and now, having lined out for Dundalk and Derry, he's back with the Hoops.

"It is great to be back at Shamrock Rovers. I enjoyed my time away from the club, but it is good to be back now and I can't wait to get started again here. I've been away from home for a while now and all the travelling is hard on the body, so I think I will have the chance to really do well here," said Madden.

Meanwhile, Conor Powell is eager for a new challenge after severing his ties with Shamrock Rovers. Powell, 26, joined the Hoops from Sligo Rovers at the start of the 2012 season but his two-year stay was a disappointing one and he's now heading for an exit.
