Ronaldo helps Real to Super Cup win

CRISTIANO RONALDO proved the star of the show yet again as his double-strike handed the UEFA Super Cup to Real Madrid in a 2-0 win over Spanish rivals Sevilla in Cardiff.

The Portuguese winger opened the scoring in the 30th minute thanks to a Gareth Bale assist.

Bale swung a cross in from the left and there Ronaldo was on hand to cushion the ball in at the far post.

Ronaldo then doubles the European Cup champions' lead in the 49th minute after he was found on the left of the area by a sharp pass from Benzema and hammered a rising shot towards the far corner with his left foot. Beto got two hands to it but couldn't deal with the power of the shot.

In a one-sided affair, Benzema almost added a third goal in the 64th minute when he drilled a low shot through a crowded box to bring a cracking save out of Beto. The rebound came to Fabio Coentrao but he was ruled offside.

In the 67th minte, it was James Rodriguez's turn to test Beto when Bale raced up the right wing, moved on to his left foot and chipped a pass across the area to Rodriguez who had space.

The Colombian took the ball down and then belted a swerving volley goalwards, only for Beto to deny him a debut goal with an excellent save.

Sevilla almosts pulled a goal back in the 90th minute when Jose Antonio Reyes' corner was headed out as far as Figueiras, whose volley from 18 yards was deflected inches wide.
