Rodgers closing on deal

LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers (below) is tantalisingly close to sealing a deal for Ukrainian speedster Yevhen Konoplyanka.

CEO Ian Ayre travelled to the Ukraine to try to bring the deal over the line and seems to have sealed the move ahead of interest from Spurs.

"LFC?," said Konoplyanka. "I"m so excited about it and soon you will know where I will play. It will all be clear very soon."

Reports suggest that Konoplyanka will cost an immediate £16million and £60,000 a week in wages.

Gordon D'Arcy has lost out to Luke Marshall in the centre for Ireland's opening Six Nations international against Scotland on Sunday, writes Des Berry.

D'Arcy has been dropped moved aside for the in-form Marshall, 22, as Ulster's fine form in the Heineken Cup has been rewarded with the promotion of wing Andrew Trimble and openside Chris Henry.
