ROBBIE KEANE has lost his club v country battle after the LA Galaxy denied him the chance to lead Ireland out at Wembley in next week's friendly against England.
But Keane (pictured) will be back in the fold for the World Cup qualifier at home to the Faroe Islands and also the friendly against Spain in New York.
Keane had been named in a 28-man squad by Giovanni Trapattoni for the four-game series of matches, against England, Georgia, Faroe Islands and Spain.
But the LA Galaxy complained about the length of time involved with international duty for Keane and the FAI have now confirmed that the Ireland captain would be forced to skip the friendlies against England and Georgia.
"Robbie Keane will be unable to join up with the squad for the matches against England (Wembley, May 29) and Georgia (Aviva Stadium, June 2) because of club commitments with LA Galaxy," said an FAI statement last night.
"Both matches fall outside the FIFA international window and although the player very much wanted to travel for the fixtures, he will be unable to do so because of club matches in the US."
