Rio: United must start motoring

RIO FERDINAND says Manchester United cannot afford any more slip-ups at Old Trafford as an in-form Arsenal come to town this weekend.

The Gunners are on a high after Wednesday's Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund in Germany, and another success away to United in Sunday's big game could leave David Moyes' men trailing Arsenal by an astonishing 11 points.

"I don't think we have shown ourselves this season on a consistent basis, not just in the big games. It is time to start putting our foot on the pedal now and motor on," said Ferdinand.

"We have to do that if we want to remain in contention to win the league. To do that we have to get points on the board and that is what we are aiming to do.

"The onus is on us. We have had a few bad results at Old Trafford this season already and we can't continue like that.

"We have put together a decent run of eight unbeaten games now. People say we have to win this weekend against Arsenal, but it doesn't matter whether it is Cardiff or Swansea or whoever it is – we have to win."
