THERE was relief in Irish footballing circles after rising star Shane Duffy was moved from intensive care after he lost two-thirds of his blood in a freak training ground accident.
Duffy was minutes from death when doctors realised that he had ruptured his hepatic artery during a training game with the Irish squad on Friday.
The 18-year-old Everton player had life-saving surgery after lacerating his liver and losing 3.6 litres of blood.
He is recovering well and was moved from the Intensive Care Unit at the Mater Hospital into the hospital's High Dependency Unit.
Republic assistant boss Marco Tardelli said: "We are very happy now we know his condition. It was very emotional when I met his father because I have a son the same age as Shane."
