Red card in friendly could see O'Dea miss start of MLS season

DARREN O'DEA could be forced to miss the start of the MLS season next week after he was sent off in a pre-season friendly for Toronto.

The Ireland international was shown a red card early in the second half of a friendly against Sporting Kansas City and if his offence is included in the referee's match report, he could be suspended for the season opener next Saturday.

O'Dea (pictured), who could be asked to play in central defence against Sweden in 25 days due to ongoing worries over the fitness of Richard Dunne, Sean St Ledger and Paul McShane, would then go into the March qualifiers having potentially played just two competitive club matches in the previous five months.
