REAL MADRID are lining up a record-breaking £40m bid to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

De Gea has been United’s stand-out performer this season with the Spaniard being talked about as the world’s best keeper, and Real have identified the 24-year-old as the long-term successor to Iker Casillas.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is plotting a summer move for De Gea, with any fee expected to eclipse the £33million Juventus paid Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.

Spanish international De Gea has stalled on a new deal offered by United, and with his contract due to run out in the summer of 2016, the Reds might cash in on their star stopper.

De Gea was signed by Alex Ferguson from Real’s fierce Madrid rivals Atletico in 2011 and has developed into one of the world’s best.
