Joey Barton's tumultuous spell at Rangers was ended yesterday as the club announced they had terminated the midfielder's contract with immediate effect.
The 34-year-old Englishman, who joined Rangers on a two-year contract in May, returned to the Scottish Premiership club last week after a six-week suspension following an altercation with a team mate.
He had also been charged with a breach of betting rules by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) in October and was signed off due to stress earlier this week as negotiations took place over a severance deal.
Barton was suspended in September by Rangers following a training-ground dispute with team mate Andy Halliday following a 5-1 thrashing by Celtic in the Old Firm derby.
Burnley are reported to interesting in signing him again in January.
