Raheny into Champions League draw





RAHENY UNITED have won their Women's Champions League qualifying group after a 2-1 victory over Hibernians of Malta at the Clujana Stadium, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Goals from Catherine Cronin and Claire Shine saw the Dubliners top their group - the first Irish side to do so.

Casey McQuillan's can now look forward with anticipation to being one of the 32 teams going into the draw for the knock-out stages of the competition, which takes place on Friday August 22nd.

The next round will be played on 8/9 and 15/16 October with the final being played in Berlin on 14 May 2015.

Possible opponents for Raheny includes such European giants as Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, FFC Frankfurt, Olympique Lyonnais and the current holders Vfl Wolfsburg.

A delighted boss McQuillan said: "The work has just begun - we will go home, enjoy the achievement and look forward to the draw for the knockout stages.

"I am extremely proud of what we have achieved for Raheny United & Ladies Soccer in Ireland".

The team returns home from their Romanian trip today, landing in Dublin airport's Terminal 1 at around 4.05pm.
