Problems mounting for Trap

GIOVANNI Trapattoni will have to plan without half a dozen key men for end-ofseason fixtures against Algeria and Paraguay and the training camp for fringe players in Malahide.

Damien Duff’s name was added to the list of walking wounded among Trapattoni’s core group when he hobbled away from Fulham’s 1-0 defeat by Stoke at Craven Cottage Fulham medics first thought that Duff had torn a calf muscle but are now worried that he might have done damage to his knee.

He did make it back onto the pitch for his team’s season end lap of honour but Duff is now a big doubt for Fulham’s Europa Cup final in Hamburg next week.

“He couldn't run, he was struggling with an injury,” said Hodgson. “He took a kick some time ago but we sincerely hope it’s not a serious knee injury. It will be checked today and we’ll see on Friday how that progresses.”

Trapattoni already knows that Shay Given and Stephen Hunt will not be available for the two RDS international friendlies at the end of the month.

It looks likely that Richard Dunne and Keith Andrews, who have both been playing with injuries for some time, will also be excused for the summer when the Premier League season is wrapped up this weekend.
