Patterson: North a no-go

DERRY CITY man Rory Patterson is not expecting a recall to the Northern Ireland senior squad despite an impressive run of form with the Brandywell club.

Tyrone-born Patterson finished an injury-scarred 2012 season in style as he came off the bench to score twice for City in their FAI Cup final defeat of St Patrick's Athletic, which earned him the prize of November's player of the month from the Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland.

The 28-year-old has been capped five times at senior level by the North, most recently in 2010, but a recall is not on the agenda, he fears.

"I haven't spoken to Michael O'Neill (Northern Ireland manager) since he took over and, to be honest, it's not something I've been thinking of. I'd imagine there are probably younger lads coming through now and into the running," says Patterson, delighted to have helped Derry win the Cup and qualify for the Europa League.

"It's great for the club and city to have European football back on our doorstep. We are planning to have a push on all fronts, and obviously the Premier Division is the priority."
