Pats take all the points after Galway crippled by early red

Sean Connor's Galway United outfit took just 17 minutes to register their first sending off of the season at Richmond Park as St Patrick's Athletic won 2-0.

With it went any hopes of United achieving a positive opening-day result as they had already fallen behind to an eighth-minute Ryan Guy goal.

The game petered out in the second half, but Alex Williams had time to score for his new club on 69 minutes when he found time in the box to strike.
