GIOVANNI Trapattoni has asked Ireland fans for more patience and told them: "The job is only half done."

After a win over Armenia which confirmed Ireland as one of the seeds among Portugal, Croatia, Montenegro, Turkey, Bosnia Herzegovina, the Czech Republic and Estonia but left fans desperately disappointed by the performance, Trapattoni accepts his team must do more.

"The job is only 50% done. We have a play-off to play. We will have to play better and a lot of the play-offs teams will be different from Armenia. But I am confident."

Trapattoni revealed the scale of the pressure resting on his players' shoulders before the game.

"The rugby team lost against Wales so we knew we could give the national morale a lift. They had a big weight on their shoulders. They had the responsibility of keeping a nation's hope alive and it is a big responsibility."
