Palace pique as King calls up Garvan

NOEL King has been dragged into the first club versus country row of his reign as Ireland U21 manager as Crystal Palace boss George Burley is furious that midfielder Owen Garvan has been called up for international duty.

Garvan made his debut for Palace on Saturday following a £250,000 move from Ipswich Town and he was due to play again tonight against Yeovil Town in a Carling Cup game, but instead will win his 16th U21 cap for Ireland against Estonia.

"Owen hasn't even trained with us properly yet because his registration was only cleared on Friday night. He did really well against Leicester but now he is away for a meaningless game -- Ireland can't qualify and Owen's only got one more match before he becomes too old to play," said Burley.
