O'Shea has week to prove fitness

GIOVANNI Trapattoni has given John O'Shea a week to prove that his ankle is up to the pressure of European Championship football.

O'Shea has now been with the Ireland squad for eight days and hasn't kicked a ball in anger yet.

"We have seven days and he must show me that he is well. Shay Given and Kevin Foley are making good progress," said Trap after calling up Paul Green to replace Keith Fahey.

"Against Bosnia, like Given I preserved him. I said, no, he cannot run the risk. But in Hungary, he must be fit. He thinks he can play."

Ireland trained on arrival and this afternoon in Montecatini. Paul McShane is waiting for news on an injured instep before he resumes operation.
