O'Donnell tweets his joy at title victory

Dundalk's Premier Division title-winning captain Stephen O'Donnell has taken to Twitter to sarcastically thank those supporters who mocked him after his knee injury earlier in the season that almost caused him to miss the entire season.

O'Donnell suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury back in April in a challenge with Shamrock Rovers' midfielder Shane Robinson during their Premier Division clash at Oriel Park.

However, O'Donnell (pictured above) worked extremely hard with the Louth club's medical team and returned in a 0-0 draw with former club Shamrock Rovers in early October, coming on as a 59th minute substitute.

The Galway native went onto score the opening goal in last Friday's 2-0 win over Cork City at Oriel Park which allowed O'Donnell and his team-mates to lift the Premier Division title.

After a long weekend of celebrations, O'Donnell tweeted his joy yesterday afternoon: "And now for a tweet that I have been waiting to send since the final whistle last Friday night" "thank you to these gents for the motivation of getting back before the season finished. Much appreciated!!"
