Former Dundalk stars Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan could make their debuts for new club Preston against Arsenal in the FA Cup next month.
The pair have agreed contracts with Championship side Preston but due to rules on international transfers, they're not eligible to play until the New Year. The first league game of 2017, away to Burton Albion on January 2, is too early but that FA Cup tie, at home to the Gunners on Saturday January 7, is an option, according to boss Simon Grayson.
Having been training and playing for 11 months, the duo have been given some time off but will report to the Lancashire club next week to begin settling in.
"They're going to come over next week just to see the lads and integrate them. Obviously, no training as they're not contracted to us until January 3," Grayson told Newstalk.
"They've both been chomping at the bit to get into training with us. And potentially the first game that they're going to be available for us will be the Arsenal cup tie.
"They're here for the long-term, not just for the first few games. We have both of them for two and a half years. I'm sure they'll fit into the squad very well and affect the squad in a positive manner."
Preston's Irish midfielder Alan Browne is keen to work with the pair. "Horgan and Boyle have done really well for Dundalk and it is great for them to get their chance here," he said.
