Morrissey on the double for Cork City

DANNY MORRISSEY scored twice as Cork City overcame Kilbarrack United 3-1 in the FAI Ford Cup second round at Turner's Cross.

Adjusting to life without Tommy Dunne, sacked as manager on Saturday, City had Stuart Ashton in charge in a caretaker's role, and Morrissey got them off to a dream start, firing home after 52 seconds following an Ian Turner corner.

Despite being on top for the rest of the first half, Cork could not make that advantage count. It wasn't until Morrissey's second on 55 minutes that they had breathing space.

Defender Garry Buckley made it three soon after, as he volleyed home another corner by Ian Turner, but they were not totally comfortable as Kilbarrack substitute James English pulled one back with his first touch. Cork now travel to Sligo Rovers in the third round on Saturday, August 24.
