AIDEN McGEADY is back on form with Spartak Moscow as he scored his first league goal in four months for the club.
McGeady recently returned to the Spartak side after a lay-off due to a knee injury, but he played his part for the club over the weekend, scoring Spartak's second goal in a 3-0 win over Krylya Sovyetov, a win which lifts Spartak up to fifth in the league table.
There was no such luck for Ireland's other continental-based players over the weekend. Barry Maguire started in midfield for VVV Venlo but they went down 3-0 at home to Heerenveen in the Dutch league, while Dominic Foley was a sub for Belgian side Cercle Bruges in their 0-0 draw with Lierse.
Former Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United man Shane Robinson lines out for his Finnish |club – FC Haka – tonight, hoping to keep up his impressive form as he's scored three goals in their last five games.
Jeff Hendrick is enjoying his status as a hero to the Derby County fans after scoring the first senior goal of his career to win the local derby against Nottingham Forest.
Things looked bleak for Derby when Andy Reid put Forest in front from the penalty spot at the City Ground, but Derby equalised and then Dublin teenager Hendrick netted the winner 18 minutes from time. “Scoring the winner to get three points for the team is great, but to score in a local derby makes it even better,” said Hendrick, a key figure in midfield for the Ireland U19 side in their run to the semi-final of the European Championships in July
