SEAN ST LEDGER gave Giovanni Trapattoni a major boost by playing a full part in Leicester's 1-1 draw with Championship top guns Cardiff.

Trapattoni will also be pleased to hear that Aiden McGeady is winning his battle to recover from a knee injury in time for next week's crunch World Cup qualifier in Stockholm.

McGeady trained on his own with Spartak Moscow over the last few days and appears to have suffered no reaction in his knee injury.

Without Anthony Pilkington – ruled out of the game against Sweden and the home fixture against Austria – McGeady's fitness will be vital to Ireland's chances of emerging from the fixture double-header with World Cup qualification still a possibility.

There was some more good news for Trap last night when Johan Elmander failed to show for Galatasaray's successful Champions League clash with Schalke 04 and will not be available for the Stockholm clash.

Sweden manager Erik Hamren has called up Celtic defender Mikael Lustig, who has recovered from a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart striker Martin Harnik has been recalled after injury to the Austria squad for the qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Ireland.
