McCarthy nears Hammers move as Everton eye Huntelaar

BENNI McCarthy has edged closer to a move from Blackburn Rovers to west ham united -- but the forward may not play when the teams meet at Upton Park on Saturday.

Blackburn want £2.5m for the forward, more than twice what West Ham are willing to offer as an initial sum, but they are unhappy that McCarthy has missed training.

"We will deal with it separately, should he remain here after the transfer window has closed," Rovers boss Sam Allardyce said.

Everton have confirmed an interest in signing Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who joined AC Milan in the summer after a short spell at Real Madrid.

Celtic defender Stephen McManus is on the verge of a loan move to Middlesbrough, while Burnley have expressed an interest in Danny Fox, the Scotland defender who has played 23 times for Celtic since he moved from Coventry City in the summer.

Wolverhampton have signed Adlene Guedioura on loan from Charleroi with a view to a permanent deal. The Algerian midfielder has played for seven clubs in the past six years. Wolves have allowed left-back Matt Hill to move on loan to Queens Park Rangers.

Elsewhere, Philippe Senderos has completed his loan move to Everton from Arsenal, Argentine striker Marco Ruben has agreed a four-and-half year contract with Wigan Athletic for a fee of up to £7m from Villarreal and preston have signed Manchester United's Danny Welbeck on loan for the season.
