McCarey called up to fill in for injured Westwood

WOLVES keeper Aaron McCarey has received an unexpected end-of-season bonus as he's been called into the senior Ireland squad for next week's friendly against Spain in New York.

The Monaghan lad won his seventh U21 cap in last month's 0-0 draw away to Denmark but his form with the U21s has caught the eye of Giovanni Trapattoni.

Now McCarey, who has yet to make his first-team debut for Wolves since his move from Monaghan United, has been given the nod to come in as cover for the Spain game, as Keiren Westwood will not travel to the USA as he needs treatment on an injury.

McCarey, who played first-team football for Monaghan United when he was only 16, is the latest League of Ireland player to get a call-up to the senior panel.
