EVENING HERALD Schools Sports Star of the Year for 2012 Daniel Matthews has already added to his list of achievements just months after graduating.
The All-Ireland and Leinster Senior B Cup winner with St Kevin's Community College, Clondalkin has been called up to the Ireland Amateur international team.
The teenage midfield star's success with St Kevin's attracted the attention of local club Collinstown FC last year and he immediately settled in to play a pivotal role in the junior side's fifth title win in a row.
Currently top of the AUL Premier B division, Matthews and Collinstown are on course for the top flight and the highest standard of junior soccer in the country.
His impressive schools CV and form with Collinstown attracted the attention of the league's representative side manager last season and on his making his debut recently, Daniel did enough to impress Amateur international boss Gerry Smith.
Matthews has been called up for a challenge game with the Irish Defence Forces side on October 27 and is in line to become only the third Collinstown player ever capped at that level.
The midfielder could play a part in the side's European Championships qualification group in San Marino in the spring and appear at the finals next summer.
