MANCHESTER City are set to hijack Manchester United’s bid to land Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini is a known admirer of the Spanish international and has been alerted to the 29-year-old’s availability.
Such a move could start a bidding war for the highly experienced centre-back, with United having already bid £28.6million for the player. Ramos has told Madrid that he wants to specifically deal with United, however, he could be swayed by the personal terms on offer at City, which could trump anything offered by Louis van Gaal’s team.
Pellegrini made no secret of his regard for Ramos when addressing the number of star names playing in Spain.
When discussing Cristiano Ronaldo, he also mentioned other stars of the Spanish League with Ramos amongst them.
He said: “Neymar, (Luis) Suarez, (Sergio) Busquets, (Andres) Iniesta and Sergio Ramos are others on a very high level. In Spain are the best teams in the world,” he added. Pellegrini has already worked with Ramos during his year in charge of Real during the 2009-10 season.
