SHANE LONG is on the verge of becoming a Hull City player after the Tigers this morning confirmed that they had agreed a fee with West Brom.

Steve Bruce's pursuit of the player will finally bear fruit as the Baggies have agreed to see the Ireland striker, for a fee in the region of £6million.

Stoke City and Southampton had been tracking Long while Championship side Nottingham Forest were also in the race to sign the striker, but a move to Hull is now a formality. Long scored 22 goals in 87 games for WBA following his £7m move from Reading.

"We have agreed a fee with West Brom for Shane Long, and will now enter talks with the striker over personal terms," Hull said in a statement earlier today.

Long is now in line to make his Hull debut away to Norwich City on Saturday and the Canaries are confident that Long's Ireland team-mate Wes Hoolahan will still be at Carrow Road, the club insisting that Hoolahan is staying on despite a bid from Aston Villa.

"At the moment our concentration is on can we add to the squad, can we improve the squad, not on letting players go out," said Norwich's under-fire manager Chris Hughton.
