Lewandowski to face Ireland

IRELAND will face one of the deadliest forwards in Europe later this month as Borussia Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski has been named in the Poland squad which takes on Ireland in Poznan, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

With the FAI still trying to land a manager for the game, Poland – who sacked their coach Waldemar Fornalik after the failed World Cup qualification bid – have already hired a new boss.

Coach Adam Nawalka will have his first game against Slovakia on November 15, with the Ireland game four days later.

Premier League keepers Wojciech Szczesny and Artur Boruc are included, but the key men are from Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, Jakub Blaszczykowski and Robert Lewandowski.

POLAND SQUAD – KEEPERS: Szczesny (Arsenal), Boruc (Southampton), Tyton (PSV).

DEFENDERS: Celeban (Vaslui, Romania), Jedrzejczyk (Krasnodar, Russia), Kowalczyk (Volga, Russia), Szukala (Steaua Bucharest).

MIDFIELDERS: Blaszczykowski (Borussia D), Cwielong (Bochum), Klich (Zwolle, Holland), Krychowiak (Stade Reims), Sobota (FC Bruges)

FORWARDS: Lewandowski (Borussia), Sobiech (Hannover).
