Kinnear causes outrage

FORMER Ireland international Joe Kinnear has caused outrage among Newcastle United fans with an astonishing radio interview even before he starts work at the club.

Newcastle announced that they were bringing ex-Toon boss Kinnear back to the club as director of football, but United fans, already upset at the return of the unpopular Kinnear, are today up in arms over some claims made by Kinnear.

In a remarkable interview on Talksport radio last night, Kinnear

* claimed that fans who criticised his appointment were "talking out of their backside"

* mispronounced the names of Newcastle players, such as "Yohan Kebabs" and "Hatem Ben Afra"

* claimed to have brought 'keeper Tim Krul to the club even though the Dutchman was there three years before Kinnear's arrival.

Kinnear said: "I can open the door to any football manager in the world, that is the difference. I have spent my whole life picking the phone up to Sir Alex Ferguson, week-in, week-out.

"I can pick the phone up at any time of the day and speak to Arsene Wenger. I don't know what angle they (the fans) have got.

"Some of them are just talking out of their backside, a load of tosh, and I am not accepting it. I have certainly got more intelligence than them, that is for sure."
