Keane loss hurts more with United nomination

MICHAEL Keane has been nominated for reserve team player of the year at Old Trafford underlining the certainty that the FAI will regret the loss of such a big talent to England.

And to add even more to the sense that the Manchester United twins are the ones that got away, brother Will smashed home four goals against Newcastle in midweek to nail down the Reserve team championship.

United reserve team coach Warren Joyce paid a glowing tribute to Michael Keane who is nominated alongside Larnell Cole and Jesse Lingard.

"Michael handles the ball really well and makes good decisions. He is generally brave and wants to defend -- you've seen that in games with the amount of blocks or headers he puts in," said Joyce.

"He defends really well in one-versus-one situations and I don't think he's had many bad days this season, never mind bad games."

Both Keanes were the subject of intense interest from the FAI and while Michael initially seemed to be happy to throw in his lot with Ireland, Will has always indicated a preference for England.

Now, however, both youngsters have decided that they will represent England in the future.
