RAILWAY UNION .....................3

FIRHOUSE............................ 0

RAILWAY Union kept up their good form in the SDFL Under 8 Division 1 section with a deserved 3-0 win over Firhouse in Park Avenue on Saturday morning.

It's now two wins, one draw and a defeat in four games for the Union and, should they keep up that kind of form, they could well be around when the silverware is handed out at the seasons end.

The visitors started the better of the two and had the home side on the back foot in the early stages of the opening half, but they found the home defence standing firm.

And it was from that defence that the Union opened the scoring in the fifth minute, as a long clearance landed at the feet of Sean Corbett, who sprinted down the left and sent in an inch perfect cross that Cian O'Donoghue controlled, before slotting home.

Two minutes later the visitors had a great chance to draw level when they breached the home defence, but Cian Donnelly saw his well struck effort turned away for a corner by Hugh Mulligan.

Play then swung from end to end and, just as it looked like there would be only one goal in the opening half, the home side doubled their lead on the stroke of half time.

Theo Scolard was the provider, when he whipped in a cross from the right hand side for Joseph Helm to tuck home.

A couple of changes at half time saw Firhouse come out the better side and again O'Donoghue had a chance to score, but this time his effort flashed wide.

They were beginning to turn the screw with Andy Connors and Adlane Boulmelh dominating the middle of the park, but there was still no way through the home defence.

And just to rub salt into their wounds Railway added a third, to finally kill off any hopes they might have had of getting back into the game.

Helm set the move in motion when he raced down the right and sent in a low cross for Corbett to fire home their third, and seal the points.
