ST VINCENT'S HOSPITAL.......................0

FETTERCAIRN....................................3

A couple of goals by James Murray and another from David O'Connor eased Fettercairn past St Vincent's Hospital and into the third round of the Polikoff Cup in comfortable fashion at Bushy Park.

The Tallaght side was two up at the break thanks to Murray's fine brace and O'Connor netted the third and final goal late in the game to settle the tie and kill off any notions of a comeback by the home side.

The fact that the Saints were still in the game up until the closing stages was down to some poor finishing from the visitors, who really should have been out of sight by the break.

The visitors got off to a perfect start when they went in front after only three minutes when Declan Glynn picked out Murray with an inch perfect cross and the striker stooped down and netted by Ronan McDermott with a neat diving header.

Fettercairn continued to push forward and they carved open the hosts on several occasions. Gavin Byrne blasted over from close range and then headed inches wide while Craig Kelch forced McDermott into a fine save.

The Tallaght side almost paid for their shyness in front of goal when the Saints broke free of the siege and Luke McCormack dragged a shot just wide of the upright.

With five minutes left in the first half Fettercairn finally added to their tally in the most spectacular fashion when Murray netted with a stunning volley.

The striker was loitering just on the edge of the area when the ball broke and Murray pulled the trigger at the first time of asking and the ball flew into the top corner.

The home side made a decent fist of trying to get back into the game after the break and both Shane O'Brien and Robbie Kernan went close with long-range efforts.

The final act of this tie arrived with ten minutes left when David O'Connor raced clear of his markers and thumped home from 10 yards to kill off any notions of a Saints revival.
